GALLBLADDER CANCER IN PIMPRI CHINCHWAD Gallbladder cancer is a rare cancer that starts in the gallbladder's tissues. It's difficult to detect and diagnose early because it may not have any symptoms, or they may be hard to spot. When symptoms do occur, they can include: Jaundice, which is when the whites or skin turn yellow Fever Pain in the upper right abdomen Indigestion Bilious vomit Weakness Loss of appetite Weight loss A lump in the tummy Other factors that can increase the risk of gallbladder cancer include: Gallstones, especially larger ones Other gallbladder conditions, like polyps, infections, and chronic inflammation Being overweight or obese Tests that examine the gallbladder and nearby organs are used to detect, diagnose, and stage gallbladder cancer. Treatment options depend on the stage of the cancer: Early-stage Surgery to remove the gallbladder and nearby tissue (cholecystectomy) followed by adjuvant therapy may be curative. Other treatments include radiation therapy to kill cancer cells or slow tumor growth, and chemotherapy to kill cancer cells or stop them from multiplying. Locally advanced and metastatic disease Treatment is with palliative chemotherapy. The 5-year survival rate for regional disease is approximately 15%, and the 5-year survival rate for distant metastatic disease is reported at less than 10%.
