Description

Thyroid cancer is a rare disease that occurs when abnormal cells grow in the thyroid gland, a small organ at the base of the neck that produces hormones. The cancer can spread to other parts of the body. Thyroid cancer can be of four main types, which vary in their aggressiveness. Anaplastic thyroid cancer is hard to cure with current treatments, whereas papillary (the most common), follicular, and medullary thyroid cancer can usually be cured.
